Storknose sat quietly in the Marshlands, waiting for a frog to appear out of the water. He was sitting on a small patch of land. Of course he could jump in and chase a frog, but he was the type to wait for one to appear. he sat quietly, just... waiting. It was so hard for him to sit still like this. He moved his leg slightly, his whole body shivering afterwards. It made him so uncomfortable to stay still.
He didn't move for a while, his muscles screaming at him to go back to camp. But he couldn't do anything before he hunted, it was his own vow that he and his father made up. He almost regretted making that vow, but that would be regretting his father. He shuddered at the thought and stood still again, not seeing any frogs or any type of creature at the surface. Yet.
Storknose couldn't take it anymore; he saw a frog, and before he could say anything he pounced on it. He caught it flawlessly, except for scaring the living daylights out of every other creature in the marsh. He laughed and darted for the camp, glad he had caught something so he could relax.

Crystal blue pools watched him from the bushes. She was on her way to camp, carrying a medium-sized trout in her jaws, when the tom caught her attention. She didn't know him all that well, Phoenixbreeze was one of the quieter types, silent but deadly she thought to herself. She smiled to herself as she watched him wait patiently, his expression quoted the suffering he was enduring and she chuckled. She began to walk out of the bushes just as he had caught his trophy. With a voice as soothing and beautiful as the features she was painted with, she spoke."Keep your face like that for too long and it might get stuck." She chuckled with an intriguing purrr. Her crystal blues sparkling with laughter, her light brownish pelt softly kissed by the sun.
She wasn't sure if he had heard her, and so she sped up a little to catch up to him. "I believe we haven't met, though I've seen you around all my life, well the short two years of it. Well, anyways, I'm Phoenixbreeze, and if you don't mind, what is your dubbing?" Her pools looked at him with gentle urging and curiosity.

Startled, Storknose jumped slightly and dropped his frog on the ground. Storknose sighed and picked it up again, looking around. At his side was a Siamese she-cat. Keep your face like that for too long and it might get stuck. The quote made him laugh, a quiet but energetic and excited laugh. She seemed to be curious of him, so he acted the same. He studied the she-cat for a minute or two before she spoke again, asking for his name. Phoenixbreeze, her name was. He became jealous. His name was Storknose, just because he had a long snout when he was born. What did that have to do with his personality, what did that have to do with his pelt? He didn't know, and he didn't like it.
"Me? Oh, I'm just same ol' Storknose. Nice to meetcha, Phoenixbreeze. You gotta nice name there, darlin'." He said, his voice in an unknown awkward accent. he thought it was Southern, he had heard some men in the woods talking in the same accent as he did. Storknose chuckled, he and the she-cat were so different.

Her long tail flicked and curled with a mind of its own as she listened to him, quickly picking up on his slight southern accent. She liked it, it made him unique.Me? Oh, I'm just same ol' Storknose. Nice to meetcha, Phoenixbreeze. You gotta nice name there, darlin'.Ahh, so his name was Storknose? She smiled at the name, it was intriguing to her. "Well, I have to say the name suits you, the way you sat there waiting for the frog as a stork stands awaiting its meal." She had remembered seeing a stork at the lake's edge, waiting for a frog or a fish to come too close to escape. "Its nice to me you as well, Storknose." She dipped her head down in a respectful gesture.
She looked at the trout that she had set upon the earth when she began to speak to the tom. It made her think what a desperate state the clan was in. Prey had been oddly low recently. She cleared her throat. "If you were headed to camp, do you mind if I join you?" She looked up to him with her light pools. "Besides, I should keep a good eye on you, make sure your face is okay, you were definitely working your cramped look pretty well back there." She purred then began to head towards camp, she looked back and smiled, the fish in her jaws. "You, coming Storknose?"

Storknose smiled at her description. So maybe that was why he was named Storknose. He was patient, but he didn't sit still very well, like a stork. He still didn't get the whole nose thing, though. He thought his mom picked the first thing that came to her mind when it came time to name him. Storkkit. Really, mother? He would think whenever his father would call his name. Then Storkpaw, and when time came, Storknose. What was so significant about is nose? He made a fuss over tiny little things, not many cats would make a big deal out of his name. He wanted one that was cool. One that was smooth. Like Phoenixbreeze. It rolled off his tongue like marbles. Phoenixbreezephoenixbreezephoenizbreeze. He thought over and over again. It was smooth and flat, unlike stocky, picky Storknose. Storknose was more of a tongue twister to him.
Storknose nodded at her question. "I'd love for ya to join me." He said, continuing slowly on his way back. "Keep an eye on me, eh? My face is fine, as good as it always is, ya storkbrain. My cramped look? That's just the face I make when I'm waitin' on somethin'." He added, a denying voice. He often called people storkbrain when they had said something stupid. He came up with it himself as a kit.

Phoenixbreeze smiled contently with his quick reply. I'd love for ya to join me. She flicked her tail and it gently tapped him on the shoulder. She felt slightly confused when he called her storkbrain, then she shrugged and decided that it sounded funny than calling someone mousebrain like she always had. His was kind of catchy, and she purred with delight.
As they started their homeward bound "journey" Phoenixbreeze thought of what to say to the tom. "So, tell me more about yourself, what kind of things do you like to do? What's your favorite food?" She hoped she wasn't being to pushy, but she was curious, she kind of liked this tom, he was nice and she felt comfortable around him. While she waited for his answer she looked around her. The few trees that grew on their territory created a spotted affect on the ground with the sunlight. She liked how with the steps she took she woulf feel cool, then warm, as she bounced from shadow to sun.

Storknose chuckled as she purred. He was happy that he was pleasing someone, he usually was used to the person rolling their eyes and ignoring him. Storknose had that reputation. He was the one that sat around and no one talked to, and acted annoying to get attention. Storknose was used to insulting people, he didn't really know any better. He sighed and looked at Phoenixbreeze, a smile on his face. "My favorite thing to do... Sleep, pull pranks, hunt. And then, my favorite food would have to be salamander. I don't know why, it just tastes so good..." He said, muffled from the frog, his mouth watering. He was in the mood for some food. He almost ate the frog in his mouth, but he gagged and kept from biting into it. Storknose was excited that Phoenixbreeze was interested in him, not many people wanted to be his friend. He was a jokester, and only a few people took him serious. He was getting tired of the excuses that people had to leave when he talked to them. He was afraid that he would be antisocial for the rest of his life, but maybe Phoenixbreeze would be another chance to make a friend. It came at rare times for him, and he didn't want to push it that he could lose a friendship other than gain one.

My favorite thing to do... Sleep, pull pranks, hunt. And then, my favorite food would have to be salamander. I don't know why, it just tastes so good... She thought to herself for a moment before speaking. "It might sound odd to you, but I've never actually had salamander. I always thought og them to be slimy, but I guess I should at least try it right?" She turned to look at him before returning towards camp. "I guess you'll just have to take me salamander hunting sometime." She smiled, though it was hidden because of the fish in her jaws.
Her heart fluttered when she caught site of the camp. She was enjoying her conversation with Storknose, there weren't many she opened up to, but for some reason Storknose made her feel confident in herself. She enjoyed having him as a friend, if that's what they were? She hoped they were at least. "Storknose?" She waited for his reply. "We are friends right? I know it sounds foolish for me to ask, its just, I don't really have many friends here." She sighed, she never understood why. She was usually shy and quiet, and some of the she-cats acted like they were threatened by her. One day she looked at her reflection on the shore, she didn't think she was THAT pretty. She shrugged oh well.

'You've never had a salamander? Wow, you've gotta try it sometime. It's so good. I mean, like, it ain't slimy at all. It looks it, but it's ain't. Not many cats around here like salamander. I'm different, though, ya see? I'll take ya huntin' sometime, a'ight? I promise, Phoenixbreeze." He said, excited and happy. He was surprised she had never eaten a salamander before. She seemed like the type to try new things when she sees them. Well, Storknose guessed wrong.
He looked at the camp, smiling. It welcomed him, it had been his home for the past three years. He didn't fit in, but he liked standing out. The marshes were what he liked to hunt in, and even though the water wasn't all that clean, he liked to swim in it. He continued walking, and listened carefully spoke. He chuckled. "You can darn bet on Starclan that were friends. It's a'ight, I don't got too many friends 'round here either." He said, looking at Phoenixbreeze. Her guard was up now, and he frowned. "Ya don't have to ask, ya know." He said, a friendly smile strolling across his face. He tried to cheer up anyone and everyone, whether he liked them or not. He hated sad times, wars the most. It made him feel like he was the only one still hoping for... he didn't know what he was hoping for.
