Bright blue eyes were wide as he watched the little gray mouse. It had been a few days since he had eaten, and he was hoping that the rumbling of his stomach wouldn’t scare the little creature off. Skie was an excellent hunter, but he didn’t put that strength to use a lot. No, he was very lazy and would rather go for three days without eating than get up off his butt and hunt for something. So now it was hunger that had driven him into the wilderness to catch something to eat. The mouse wouldn’t nearly be enough, but it would be enough to hold him over for a couple of hours while he found something better to eat.
Despite the fact that he was lazy and went hungry a lot, Skie looked healthy. His gray pelt was thick, and well groomed. His eyes were bright with life, and his weight was average. A grin appeared on his maw as the mouse got closer and closer to him. Just a few more steps and.. BAM! Skie jumped out from the behind the bushes and caught the little creature in his mouth. He ended its life quickly, not being one to get satisfaction from the pain of others. He ate it just as quickly, and then turned around.
”Come on out little kitty, I know you’re there.” He had heard them break a small stick as he was devouring his mouse. What they wanted didn’t really matter to him; he was just hoping that they were a girl.

Firestar was moving quietly, belly brushing the ground not wanting any extra attention to come to her. The she cat had strayed from Clan territory to possibly find new clan cats. Some cats the fiery leader had purposely avoided, they looked like cats that would not be much use in the Clans but for trouble. No sane leader wanted trouble in the Clans. Others Firestar had approached and talked, but these cats did not want to come join RockClan. I have to go home soon. Firestar thought. Might as well start home now. Firestar hadn't been in the Unclaimed lands for long, just a day maybe a little longer. She could not afford to be that adventurous warrior she used to be. Firestar was a leader now, she had her clan to take care of. Firestar had been so caught up in getting home and thinking about her clan she had not noticed another cat in the area, nor the twig that had snapped under her paw. Firestar growled at her apprentice like mistake. She heard a cat call her to come out.
Firestar walked out from behind the bush she was passing. Her steps were confident, and head held high and proud. She was not a cat you would want to get on their bad side. "I'm sorry if I am disturbing you. I was just going back to my Clan. I am Firestar, leader of RockClan. If you don't mind, who might you be?" The she cat was careful to keep her voice calm and even. Not threatening in any way. The flame colored cat found that the cats here could flee or fight in an instant depending on the tone of voice. Firestar nodded respectfully. If cats could smile, Firestar would be. Just a small, calm smile.

The female that emerged from the bushes to greet him was striking. A small smile appeared on his face, seemingly friendly, but with alternate intentions. He took in her appearance casually. Beautiful orange fur that caused bright green eyes to pop made this female one of the prettier females he had encountered in his life. He didn’t make it obvious that he was attracted to the little thing, in fact, it was impossible to tell. His bright blue eyes were simply friendly as he sat back on his haunches and raised his paw up to his mouth, licking it. He towered over the orange female, but that was nothing new to the very large tom cat.
The female spoke to him.. So she was a clan cat like his father had been. Skie knew little about the life of the feral cats who lived in the clans, and he didn’t judge them. But from experience, he had found that they were a little harder to court than strays or house cats. They were very serious about their duty to their clan, and many times were more interested in converting him to their life style than getting romantic with him. But she was the leader of a clan, which made her a challenge.
”Nice to meet you, Firestar.” He greeted in a smooth, friendly tone. ”My name is Skie.” He introduced himself, and wrapped his bushy tail tightly around his feet. ”May I ask what you are doing away from your lands?” The question was in no way rude or intimidating, it was just friendly and conversational.

Firestar sat down a few feet in front of Skie. "Nice to meet you too, Skie." He smiled but Firestar sensed something was not right in that smile but dismissed it. After all, it was just a feeling not a definite thing. Firestar let her senses take in the tom, as she felt him doing the same thing to her. Her nose smelled his scent to reconize it for a later date, her ears took in the sound of his voice, and her eyes took in how he looked. Skie was a fairly big cat, bigger than her but this factor would not make much of a difference in a fight, with blue eyes and fluffy pelt. That pelt was mixed with varying shades of gray and white. He was a looker all right, any she cat would be glad to be his mate. Or a close friend. Maybe not any she cat, because Firestar was not interested. She was not sure about having a mate yet, and if she did it would be a clan cat not a rogue or anything of the such. Besides, there was a cat who was slowly melting their way though the ice and into Firestar's heart.
"I am looking for cats to join RockClan. Do you think you would be interested? I was just going back...I really shouldn't be gone for too long. What do you know about the Clans? I'm sure if you're a kitty pet you've heard nasty things about us. Then again if you really were a kitty pet, you might have been running to you Twolegs. Most did when I told them who I am." Firestar replied, adding her own questions. She blinked her green eyes at him thoughtfully. Perhaps he would join her Clan. Skie could be a good addition if he was taught right, if had that promising look of a warrior about him.

The orange she-cat sat down before him, but held herself in a regal manor. He knew she was the leader of the RockClan.. But he didn’t know what that meant about her in depth. He didn’t know where the RockClan resided, what they ate, what their rules were. Was she tough? Kind? He didn’t know, but he wanted to know. He wanted to know more about the female, than her clan really. He listened to her offer, and thought carefully on how to reply. A clan life just didn’t appeal to him. He didn’t have a very loyal personality, but at the same time being in a clan would lead to more females, because it would seem that most of the females around these parts were from clans. But could he be with females from different clans, if he was in one?
A pink tongue emerged from his mouth to lick his lips as he thought. ”I don’t know a lot about your life style, Firestar, and I just don’t know if it would be for me. I do not mean this in an insulting way at all, but I’m more of a roamer. I don’t like to be tied down.” He grinned softly at her and shrugged. She was pretty, and he would like to know more about her, but commitment issues were something he had dealt with his whole life.

Firestar nodded again. "That is alright. I understand. I get what it feels to have your paws itch to go somewhere but, for me, not all the time. My heart is with my Clan, where ever I go." Firestar licked her side for a few moments, not knowing what else to say. She was not the least bit disappointed that Skie had not joined her clan. Sure it was a tad bit disheartening but Firestar hadn't really thought Skie would anyway. "Though I find Clan life better than being on your own. You have like...a family to watch your back. When you get older or sick and are unable to care for yourself, you have your Clan at your back. A Clan is a tight knit group, that most cats find that they are fortunate to be in." Firestar spoke passionately about Clan life. It was her life after all. One that she would give all nine lives for. Firestar's green eyes blazed with a fierce compassion that a queen feels for her kits. That kind of compassion wasn't gentle and kind. It was like a warrior in battle or a member from LionClan. Wild and untamed, definitely something every Clan leader or even member should have.

He watched her eyes as she spoke about her clan. He watched as passion filled them as well as her voice. It was obvious that she loved her clan, and nothing could break her allegiance for it. Skie wasn't a nice guy, and if he thought he could pull her away from her clan just to have her, he would, but he could tell that there was no way she was going anywhere. He had never loved anything in the way that she obviously loved her clan. It was inspiring to him, which was something big, because very little stirred any emotion besides want in him. He nodded to her as she finished speaking.
"Your love for you clan is quite inspiring, my dear." He spoke smoothly, and his words were not filled with ill intention anymore. As much as he would like to devote a part of his life to stealing this female away, he knew that it would in vain. "I wish you nothing but good tidings, and you can consider me your ally." He smiled softly at her and licked his side a little bit. The tom cat didn't really know what else to say. He could tell that she wanted to get home, and he wouldn't stop her when she decided to leave.

Firestar was starting to get that feeling that she had previously described. It was an itch in her paws but this itch was different. This itch wanted to take her back to her Clan, to where she belonged. Firestar stood, shaking her pelt. "I'm glad to know that. The promise is mutual. When RockClan needs help, you'll be one of the cats we'll come to. If you need help, you can come for us. I'll try and see what I can do to help. I should be going now, my Clan will worry. Being a leader has it's downfalls too and I must say this is one of them. Your Clan tends to think you can't take care of yourself any longer without having a patrol of warriors surrounding you." Firestar dipped her head in a respectful farewell. She could tell that her words stirred something in this cat, and that something was gone in his voice. "I wish you well Skie. You know where to find me, just head to the mountains. I hope to see you someday." With that Firestar turned and started to run. At that pace, she could possible make it to RockClan camp by nightfall. Firestar surged forward eagerly, a final flick of her tail to say good bye before she was in sight no more.

She bid him a graceful farewell, telling him that if he ever needed anything he could come to the RockClan and she told him how to get there. He highly doubted that he would ever see this female again, but he stored the bits of information away. How she smelled, talked, what she looked like, and how to get to her home. It was a nice feeling, knowing that if he did ever need assistance there was somewhere he could go. He nodded to her, and then she wished him well and took off running toward her home.
He stood, raising his butt in the air, and kneading the ground with his claws. His mouth opened wide in a yawn. When he'd finished stretching, his eyes traveled upward. It was close to night time, and he needed to find a place to rest. With that thought in mind, he turned around and headed for the thick forest. His walk was graceful and confident, his eyes were calm. He knew the forest was a dangerous place at night, but that didn't really bother him. He was almost as big as any fox that might want to eat him, and he could at least give a wolf a run for its money before it killed him.
