Flamingleaf was asleep in the nursery she was in a particularly good mood before then for being able to walk the forests with her son Snowstar a few days ago. Just being able to move around proved good therapy for the soon to be mother and was not in such an irritated mood as before. Her breaths fell even as she was relaxed and dreaming happy thoughts of running through the forests again, catching mice and other creatures. Though that dream was soon shattered by a sudden start of sharp pains, her eyes flew open and she propped her self up a bit her eyes darted around though every one else was still asleep. The fiery ginger female looked towards the entrance as it was just about dawn as there was very little sunlight peaking through the milk scented den. Breaking her thoughts again came another sharp pain in her stomach and she gritted her teeth being fully awake.
Taking a deep breath she knew what was happening as she has experience this once before. She was giving birth to her kittens and they were coming now. Still she didn't want the more girly queens waking up to gush and run around telling everyone. She just wanted to do it in peace, she she bit back the pain and focused on breathing. Breathe in breathe out she told herself rather calmly as she felt a contraction and closed her eyes tightly her tail swished around behind her and she took in a deep breath. Her body shivered with a spasm as she waited, remembering perfectly well when to push as really it was instinct rather than learning it. She waited knowing that things would have to be fully dilated before pushing even occurred so she had to wait through the pain. Another sharp pain almost made her squeak out in pain but she help it back, she was strong and no one else would doubt that. Still she dug her claws into the nursery floor for support and continued to wait it out. Using her tongue to lick at her chest in hopes of soothing herself, but alas she did not. It wasn't the same, still in the midst of this she didn't think about having anyone there really, she just thought about getting her kits out safely.
Taking deeper, more labored, breaths she closed her eyes focusing on the breathe in breathe out method she told herself before. It helped for a little while until she felt the strong need to push, and by the time that was happening it was morning she had been doing just this since dawn which had to be at least a few hours and so far no one was rushing in which was a good thing. She waited until she felt a contraction and pushed, taking a deep breath she waited again and pushed. There was a head of a grey kitten and she pushed he was half way out and pushed and finally the first kit came fully out and she turned to lick him out of the sac and clean him up before nudging him towards her stomach. The kit squirmed around and started mewing as she happily found his mother's belly. But the mew came unnoticed and a queens head lifted. Oh my! Flamingleaf's having her kits! Flaminglea'fs eyes narrowed but her attention was soon set elsewhere as she felt more contractions, she was not done yet.

It seemed as if the day was going to drag on and on, and the young medicine cat was hard at work, like usual. She knew the only queen in the nursery, Flamingleaf, was due to kit in the very near future, and before that happened, Ivypaw was going to make sure she had all the herbs she needed. She had set out early that morning to gather so that there would be plenty of borage for the queen. She was also running low on marigold, and knew if anyone came back with some sort of infection, she would be out of luck.
Ivypaw had taken her little sister, Hollykit with her to help collect the herbs. She wasn't suppose to be out of camp, but Ivypaw didn't want to leave her all alone, and plus the little kit could help her carry back some herbs. Hollykit knew the herbs as well as she did and how to gather them, so it made it easier on Ivypaw to take her rather than some other cat who would probably mess it up. Hollykit had become her helper ever since her mentor had died the previous moon. The kit wasn't allowed when there were very sick cats in the den, but Ivypaw would let her help sort herbs, and any other task she could find. Not only did it keep her sister distracted and getting under everyone's paws, but it gave her more time to treat the cats, while Hollykit put everything in its place.
The two cats headed back into camp, their jaws full of herbs. It had taken longer than she had thought to collect all this, maybe she should have asked for help, well other than Hollykit. Oh well, they managed at least. It seemed as if they arrived just in time, as Ivypaw heard Flamingleaf was having kits. Instructing Hollykit to take the herbs she had and put them away, and then placing everything but a few borage leaves down, so Hollykit could come back and get it, she ran into the nursery. This would be her first kitting without her mentor, the first kitting since Hollykit was born, where she had lost her mother. Shuddering at the thought, Ivypaw was determined to get this right, she wasn't going to lose Flamingleaf, no.
"Flamingleaf, I apologize for not being here sooner, I was out collecting herbs." she murmered to the queen. Settling down she noticed one kit had already arrived into the world. He seemed fine, and grabbing him for a few moments, she inspected him, making sure about her initial thoughts. Yes, nothing seemed wrong with him just yet. "Your son is in good health." Ivypaw said, returning the kit back. Looking around the nursery she sighed. She really needed help. "Take a few deep breaths, you are doing wonderful."
